The name REO arrived through the initials of his name, but was intended to be an acronym, and therefore pronounced to be a word. From time to time it had been spelled as "Reo" to emphasize this pronunciation. Olds served as president (right until 1925) and afterwards chairman of REO. The band REO Speedwagon took its name with the REO Velocity Wagon
